Nearly a thousand houses and informal settlements were destroyed in Cape Town, South Africa due to storms that have hit the southern country all weekend and this Monday.

Cape Town authorities warned the population of the presence of icy winds, snowfall, torrential rains and other inclement weather throughout the week until Friday or the next weekend.
Since last Thursday, South African emergency services have been on alert since the start of the torrential rains last Thursday.
It is assumed that the areas where bad weather will most affect will be the settlements of the poor, temporary facilities, houses in poor construction conditions and camps for the homeless.
Similarly, uninsured homes will suffer severe damage from strong winds, storms and perishable flooding. At least 30 suburbs of cape town are expected to be affected by the rains.
Cape Town is often hit by cold fronts from the Atlantic Ocean during its winter months in the middle of the year. They are especially damaging for the impoverished informal settlements.
